Society engagement is a part of Diego Portales University’s identity. Through its transversal policy for community engagement, the University promotes and develops programs, projects, and activities such as research centers and institutes, public lectures for the community, community clinics (managed by the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Dentistry), participation of faculty members in government agencies and media outlets, outreach activities at the Nicanor Parra Library, and the UDP Press.
Legal Clinics
Legal Clinics have been fundamental to the University’s School of Law. They have played a significant role in the public scene, where students participate in real cases throughout all of their stages until a solution is found. These Clinics are meant as free support to the population on diverse topics such as human rights, migration, family, environment, to name a few.
UDP Dental Clinic
On the other hand, the UDP Dental Clinic has operated for over ten years. It combines the University’s commitment towards the general public and society and teaching practices as it strives to find solutions to the oral health issues in the community. At the same time, the Clinic aims to develop the students’ competence and professional skills required during their studies.
UDP Press
UDP Press publishes collections, books, and journals of academic and social interest. Its mission is to publish not only academic texts, but also literary, philosophical, humanistic, and scientific works relevant to the country and the Spanish-speaking world. Additionally, UDP Press has continued and revised several thematic collections by publishing relevant texts for the study of Law, Political Science, and Design. One of its flagship publications is the UDP Journal, which has been running since 2005 and covers different topics such as trends, power, education, and generations.
Nicanor Parra Library
Finally, the Nicanor Parra Library was conceived as a place for the exchange of ideas, debates, and meetings for the community. Here, academia, culture, and community come together. This sustainable building includes classrooms, auditoriums, and open spaces ideal for exhibits. It also holds book collections relevant to students and scholars.
